I had never heard of Allison Vesterfelt before I read the post linked above. As soon as I did, I subscribed to her blog–I knew I needed to read more of what she has to share.
The post, for you TLDR types, says this, in a nutshell:
If you want to write, write. Don’t worry about fans or book deals or royalties. Write because you want to write, and the work will be its own reward.
And when the work is its own reward, the audience will follow.
It’s useful advice even if you’re not a writer. Put your heart into your work, let it be its own reward, and the rewards will follow.
That in itself is an act of courage.
